A lot of people actually pay a good deal of money just to make themselves look more attractive and feel better about themselves, but what they don't know is that they can actually achieve this easily by keeping fit and staying healthy. Having lustrous and shiny, full hair is not always due to extremely expensive salon treatments but of impeccable hygiene and a good diet.

Antioxidant vitamins play an important role in achieving healthy hair and scalp. Common antioxidant vitamins that can actually help in having gorgeous hair are Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E. While lack of Vitamin C can actually lead to gradual or even excessive hair loss among men and women, it is best to load up on anything citrus so as to ensure a healthy looking mane. Vitamin A serves to help the scalp produce sebum which is essential to the hair's volume and fullness while Vitamin E promotes the healthy circulation that the scalp needs.

The vitamins that make up the B complex are not only important to the many functions of the body and mind; it can also be a good beauty tool for you, too. In addition to promoting the good circulation that ensures a healthy scalp, these vitamins play a big role in preventing hair loss and also help the hair retain its natural color, including the prevention of premature graying.

There are many minerals that are equally important in order to achieve healthy hair. Among these are silica, iron, iodine, copper and chromium, all of which help to prevent hair loss. Copper helps maintain the hair's natural color and is important to the weight and structure of the hair. Iodine prevents dryness of the hair, as does zinc, which teams up with Vitamin A for this purpose. Silica also helps to strengthen the hair. Sulfur is one of the prime building blocks of the hair and is essential to its structure. Selenium is important to keeping the scalp elastic and flexible. Potassium helps in the circulation in the scalp, encouraging the healthy growth of hair. Calcium, magnesium and manganese are all essential minerals for hair growth.

However, engaging in a newfound health plan would not automatically alter your looks to superstar proportions; it actually takes some time before these positive effects take place. A great deal of patience is actually required for a person to be able maintain a healthy lifestyle, which, in the long run, will benefit him or her two-fold. Aside from having an overall healthy well-being, it can also result to a gorgeous outward appearance. You can expect that it will take about three or four months before you will actually be able to see the results of your efforts. When using dietary supplements, it is important to follow the recommended dosage for each supplement that you take. In fact, some of the supplements that are specifically good for your hair can cause hair loss if they are taken in extremely high dosages. If you are unsure what the best supplement dosage levels are for your individual dietary needs and health goals, you should see a licensed nutritionist, dermatologist or physician.

Naturally, paying close attention to the amounts of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that you consume daily and trying to develop good nutritional habits is important for keeping your body and mind functioning well. However, it can't hurt that your physical looks may also benefit from this healthy change in lifestyle.

CHEMICAL AVOIDANCE!!! BEWARE

Making healthy choices about your skincare and cosmetics is equally as important as the choices we make about the food we put in our body. Our skin acts as a sponge, absorbing whatever is applied, which then enters our bloodstream and is absorbed by certain organs. It is very important to read and understand the labels of the products you use.
The following ingredients should be avoided at any cost:

DEA,Diethanolamine, TEA, Triethanolamine. These are used in mascara, body washes and foundation as a foaming agent or emulsifier. Environmental Working Group (EWG) has found them to be a skin sensitizer and that they can form carcinogenic nitrosamine compounds in the skin or body after absorption if mixed with nitrostating agents.

Dibutyl Phthalate: Most often used in nail polish. Very dangerous for the environment and has been banned in Europe from use in cosmetics. Sounds horrible!

Formaldehyde: Also used in nail treatments. EWG lists it as a human carcinogen. REALLY....ICK!

Parabens: Widely used as a preservative in soaps, lotions, toothpaste and also many FOODS. It has been found to be a skin sensitizer and skin or sense organ toxicant.
Listed on labels as:
alkyl parahydroxybenzoate, butylparaben, methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, or isobutylparabens. Consumers please beware, as there are a lot of products out there with this ingredient in them!

Petrolatum: Otherwise known as petroleum jelly, it is a mineral oil derivative used as a emmolient or lubricant in products such as lip balm and eye makeup. EWG found it to be potentially contaminated with impurities linked to cancer or other significant health problems. The Europeon Union has banned it for use in cosmetics..WHAT....?

Propylene Glycol: This ingredient is used as a humectant (to retain moisture) in lotions, shampoos, and even BABY POWDER. The EWG found it to be a penetration enhancer, which alters skin structure, allowing other chemicals to penetrate deeper into the skin, increasing the amounts of other chemicals that reach the bloodstream.

Talc: Used in products such as body powder, eye shadow, and also DIAPER CREAMS, EWG has found it to be potentially contaminated with harmful impurities linked to cancer or other significant health problems.

These all sound really scary. Please look at all labels before buying skincare or cosmetics. It is so important for your well being.

Your skin is the largest organ in your body and for most of us it is malnourished! Every day your skin begs to be fed, nourished and pampered. With Dagny and Lane Face products you can achieve that purpose in 6 easy steps.

Toning also removes any stubborn dirt left on your face and prepares your skin for moisturizing. Gently use a cotton ball with upward motions while toning.

Dagny and Lane Dead Sea Salt Scrub

Our salt scrub is so smoothing and soothing for your skin!
Please read on for a little story about Dead Sea Mineral Salts.

Salt & Pamper

Soothe your skin with healing salts from the Dead Sea.

By OLESSA PINDAK
Spend a lazy afternoon floating in the salty waters of the Dead Sea and you’ll emerge with noticeably softer and smoother skin. It’s the high mineral content—including sodium, magnesium, calcium, bromine, biumen, and potassium—that gives Dead Sea salt its healing powers. In fact, long before it was bottled commercially, the salt was sought after by beachgoers who packed it into jars to take home. It was this phenomenon that convinced Ahava, a local kibbutz, to produce it on a broader scale. Today, Ahava is one of the oldest and most famous purveyors of beauty products packed with salts from the Dead Sea.

Science is now catching up with the instincts of those early beachgoers. A study published in the International Journal of Dermatology in 2005 showed that the magnesium in Dead Sea salt was helpful in reducing inflammation, says Macrene Alexiades-Armenakas, M.D., a cosmetic dermatologist in New York. The salts are also effective against psoriasis, according to the National Psoriasis Foundation in the United States, says Ido Leffler, CEO of Yes to Carrots, a beauty company that uses Dead Sea salts in all their products.

Thanks to an increasing number of companies using these salts, you don’t have to soak in the Dead Sea to benefit from its restorative powers. “The name Ahava means love,” says Michael Etedgi, CEO, Ahava North America. “That’s what this is about, goodness from the sea that softens and loves your skin."

Dagny and Lane Dead Sea Salt Scrub ($22.00) revitalizes dry spots on heels, knees and toes by exfoliating dry skin patches with dead sea salts and natural oils.....
